The 10 Commandments of Horse Racing
Rule # 1.) – Bet at your comfort level
One question you should ask yourself is how much you can bet on a race without getting nervous. So if you bet and lose one race you can easily go to the next one with a clear conscience. What is your bankroll and how much will you bet that day at the track. This is an important question that you should not bet more than you can afford. With this horse betting system the odds are in your favor but you have to be smart about the bets you place. What I do is before I go to the track or bet on-line I know what my limit is for the day. I use it based on last week’s results or my current bankroll. I never exceeded this amount. It is important to stay in your comfort zone and respect the money you are betting and it will respect you. If you find that you are outside of your comfort zone, lower your bets until you regain control.
The lesson to be learned is only bet the amount you are comfortable with. Don’t bet money you can’t afford to lose.
Rule # 2.) There is always tomorrow
How many times have you had your back against the wall and said to yourself like there are only 2 races left I don’t want to go home a loser. So you chase your money and let it affect your judgment. There is even a strategy in this system that takes advantage of the thousands that do it on the track and it leaves an open betting opportunity. Don’t be one of them. You will always dig yourself into more of a hole. This mindset will kill you most of the time. A new meeting with New possibilities is the best way to win. It is important to know when to take advantage of good betting opportunities but it is just as important to know when to call it a day. There is always tomorrow.
Rule # 3.) Increase your bets if you win, decrease if you lose
This is a very easy concept to say but sometimes hard to do. When people lose they have a tendency to try to win it all in a race so they go and dig themselves a bigger hole. Your odds with the Ultimate Handicapping System are in your favor so this is an important principle to follow as the whey is on and you are increasing your bets you are setting yourself up for some big days to come. When you are in the zone things just fall to you and you have to take advantage of these opportunities. Some streaks over the last few days, weeks, months, or hours are essentially rolling with the punches. Any horse can win on any given day. When you lose (which is less if you follow the system and reduce your bets as you build up your confidence.) When you win slowly raise the bets and improve your success.
Rule # 4.) Judge what you are doing and record your results in the program/system you are using
Don’t use something or fall into the pattern of betting in a way that doesn’t record the results you get. If you don’t write down the results it’s easy to fool yourself into thinking you broke or won most of the races you bet on. Mark your progress and make changes as needed. A good adult time frame is one or two months depending on your track frequency to determine if adjustments need to be made. It is not fair to yourself or the system you use to judge it on an outing or a weekend, because the world of horse racing is sometimes unpredictable in a day. When trying something new it is always wise to start betting small amounts until you build up your confidence. Many people avoid record keeping because they don’t want to face the fact that they have lost but it is important. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing day after day and expecting a different result. Keep records of bets placed and various data on what was bet along with wins/losses.
Rule # 5.) Go to the track or TAB prepared
The worst thing a handicapper can do is go to the track unprepared. Before you get to the track you need to know what the tough races are and where your best bet is. If you are going to make serious money in the long term you need to have a strategy in place.
If you’re on a TAB then you have a variety of tracks to choose from and it can be overwhelming without a strategy in place that you’ll be doomed before you even start. It’s best to pick a track you’re familiar with and stick with that before you go out and play more than one track.
This is why rule # 4 is so important by keeping records that you can change the tracks with the most success to increase your win ratio. Keep your energy and prepare for bias on the track.
Rule # 6.) Stay away from short-priced favorites
There are times when watching the track that horses come out as the one that reigns. It is important to look at the possibilities and make your bets as efficient as possible. If you’re putting time and effort into your picks, it’s best to stick with 2 to 1 odds or higher. You want to train yourself to find the favorite overbet and weak at low prices. With a favorite too much to bet, some horses get more trouble than they should. This is the time to attack.
Rule #7.) Don’t be enslaved to a school of thought or way of thinking
All aspects of horse racing handicapping require persistence and time. To be successful in this game it is important to know the basics and be flexible at any time. Speed numbers, odds and all factors have a place in determining the winner.
It is good that there are many principles available and using them in the right situation can improve your income. The right bet at the right time is the key to winning.
It is a handicapper’s job to ask themselves what is important for that breed.
Rule #8.) It’s best to wait until the last few minutes to bet
There are ways to avoid long lines at the betting window you can open an account on-line so you can do it over the phone but it’s best to wait until the last few minutes to bet. Let the game come to you look at the tote board and think about your strategy. Some require you to watch the last 5 minutes. The biggest bettors in the country wait until the last 3 minutes to bet. You’d be surprised how with 4 minutes to go a 4/1 can drop to 5/2 before the race messes with our strategy.
Rule # 9) Before you bet on a race ask yourself if it is an intelligent decision.
This is a good question because it brings your attention to your instincts and feelings. There are many times after being desperate you place a losing bet then ask yourself why you did that. That’s why it’s important to always ask this question and live without regrets. Especially when making the exact ones ask yourself if there are any combinations or anything you left out so you can adjust if necessary.
Rule # 10) Do not listen or fall into the trap of believing insider information
Betting on your own horses using a system you respect every now and then you get a tip that you may find valid but this tip may have passed through thousands of hands and become a bet too much. The inside information of first time starters is terrible usually they don’t know any better than us. Next time someone calls you with a tip say thanks but no thanks.
These are some hard fast rules in the handicap world. Happy Handicapping.
Use it with the simple but powerful Ultimate Handicapper and you’ll get the results you’re looking for Guaranteed.
